Getting to Piedra de la Luz

  There are signposts from the village of Ulba near Baños, that will take you on the footpath to Piedra de la Luz. However we recommend you do the circular hike that is detailed below. To travel/hike to Piedra de la Luz from Baños please follow the below directions.  They are simple instructions for the adventurous, nature loving traveller: Download the App called Outdooractive (or Wikiloc). It’s a great app that tracks your location via GPS and gives accurate directions along hiking trails worldwide.  It works without an internet connection. Search for (and download) the trail named “Piedra de la Luz - Ulba - By Chelito”. The start point is in Ulba, just East of Banos. We provide a bathroom, an honesty bar, and a space to pitch a tent or put up your hammock.

  Local legend in Banos is that the mythological Carbunclo creature used la Piedra de la Luz as a resting place and look out from the Avenue of the Volcanoes to the Amazon rainforest.
