Getting to Piedra de la Luz

 

There are signposts from the village of Ulba near Baños, that will take you on the footpath to Piedra de la Luz. However we recommend you do the circular hike that is detailed below.

To travel/hike to Piedra de la Luz from Baños please follow the below directions.  They are simple instructions for the adventurous, nature loving traveller:

1. Download the App called Outdooractive (or Wikiloc). It’s a great app that tracks your location via GPS and gives accurate directions along hiking trails worldwide.  It works without an internet connection.
2. Search for (and download) the trail named “Piedra de la Luz - Ulba - By Chelito”. The start point is in Ulba, just East of Banos. Here is the link: https://www.outdooractive.com/en/route/hiking-trail/ecuador/piedra-de-la-luz-ulba-by-chelito/273655421/
3. After you have downloaded the app, and downloaded the route, you are set ….. From Baños, take a bus/taxi to the village of Ulba, which is just 3km East of Baños. Or you could walk to Ulba from Banos in an hour.  
4. The hike starts from Ulba bridge in the village of Ulba.  You can copy and paste these numbers into Google Maps for the hike starting point: (-1.3946993, -78.3983585)
5. Once you have arrived to the Ulba bridge, use the outdooractive app to do the circular hike to Piedra de la Luz.  There are also signs (from Ulba) that will direct you to/from Piedra de la Luz, however if you wish to do the more scenic and interesting CIRCULAR hike, you must navigate using the app.
